Taking in beauty

Here is the activity from Marilyn Vancil's book Beyond the Enneagram that we did in the car on the way back from picking blueberries last weekend in case you want to share it with anyone in CCF.

The process starts with writing a list of ten adjectives that describe you when you’re at your best and feel good about yourself. These are not activities, but high-quality attributes. People often say how hard this is, and that it’s much easier to name their negative characteristics. Once this list is compiled, you add qualities that others who know you well would say about you. The next step is the Holy Aha part! While reading through the list, you visualize standing back and observing an imaginary person who embodies the qualities you’ve written, someone you would look at objectively, not subjectively like you do when looking at yourself. While considering this person, you pause to ask God to reveal a name for her or him that captures these qualities, using both an adjective and an object. Is there an image that comes to mind? Do one or two words pop up? I tell people to allow whatever comes into their awareness as the Holy Spirit guides them, and not to censor or dismiss it. Examples of a name might be Deep Ocean or Regal Lion.
