Scripps Sunday #137
The music director at Union created a Lenten playlist, and this was one he put on the list. Here is what he said about it:
"We all tend to internalize the lies that are told to us (or by us) about ourselves; for any number of reasons, we listen to the most critical voices and block out the ones that remind us of our inherent worth. I love that this song reminds us not only to reject those lies, but to return the goodness we receive tenfold into the world."
The Returner- Allison Russell
Now I let goEverything that I've knownLet it go on, let it roll outWith the tideI can't think of a thingThat hasn't been shot through with painLike a nightingale'sSong in the dead of the night
Goodbye, so long, farewell, all I've beenOoh, oblivionThrow me in the oceanOoh, see if I can swimI'm wild again, I'm a starchild againI've come ten million miles, ooh, I'm burningI'm a summer dream, I'm a real light beam, I'm worthyOf all the goodness and the love that the world's gonna give to meI'ma give it back ten times, people, are you ready? If you think you're alone, hold on, I'm coming
Now I unfoldEvery lie I was toldWatch 'em wither, watch 'em scatterWith the windI can't think of a thingThat hasn't been born of a dreamLike a love supremeLike a circle unbroken
Goodbye, so long, farewell, all I've beenOoh, oblivionThrow me in the oceanOoh, Mama, watch me swimI'm wild again, I'm a starchild againI've come ten million miles, ooh, I'm burningI'm a summer dream, I'm a real light beam, I'm worthyOf all the goodness and the love that the world's gonna give to meI'ma give it back ten times, people, are you ready? If you think you're alone, hold on, I'm coming
Don't you know, don't you know, don't you know you are never alone?
